International Record Store Day

Today wuz international record store day. I suppose ur to get off ur duff and go to your local record store and seed wot iz der. (U knows insted of downloadin all ur musics).

We did not goes out cause we had bad weathers but we thought we should go thru our old Edison records.

Five Poisonous Easter Plants

Easter iz comin and I wants all ma kitteh (and doggy furrends to be safe). I have made a list of the top 5 easter plants that are poisonous to cats (and dogs too). Please do not keep dem in your house dis Easter or any time)

Easter Lily (ALL Lilies)

Lilies are highly toxic to cats and can cause immediate kidney failure with only one leaf eaten. (Cats are more likely to be poisoned by the Easter Lily than dogs, but dogs and cats are both affected by all other lilies such as the Calla Lily and the Day Lily. It is best to just think of ALL Lilies as bad for animals.) Symptoms include vomiting, lethargy, excessive drinking and urination.

Hyacinth

This flower is part of the lily family and can be highly poisonous. Symptoms include: Intense vomiting, diarrhea (occasionally with blood), depression and tremors.

Daffodil

The bulb of this flower is the most dangerous part, but any part of the plant can cause sever problems. Symptoms of ingestion are vomiting, salvation, and diarrhea. If a large amount is eaten it can cause convulsions, low blood pressure, tremors and cardiac arrhythmias.

Tulip

Again this flower is in the same family as the lily and like the Daffodil the bulb has the highest amounts of toxins. Symptoms to watch for are vomiting, depression, diarrhea, and extreme or hypersalivation.

Easter Rose

This plant is also known as Hellebore, Christmas Rose, or Lenten Rose. It is not a rose at all rather a bushy stalk with pinkish white flowers. Symptoms of ingestion are drooling, abdominal pain, diarrhea, colic, and depression.

Ok so I did not really "hang" wif da foster sisfur, more like herz butted into ma business. I wuz watchin birdies out ma window when all of da sudden dat PK wuz up der rite aside me. Pfffffft.

Yesterday I gotted da whole upstairs all to ma self cause da fosters gotted a skeered of da big sucky fing and hided in da basement. Human1 tried to makes dem come up to meet JB Hippo but dat did not werk to good and off dey went to hide again.

Sum of da bestest jokes today comed from Toshiba wif der introducshuns of da PetBook K9 laptop computer and ThinkGeek's Playmobil Apple Store playset. Google also did der annual joke (but it not as funny az past ones) wif Gmail Motion. YouTube did a 1911 vershun of der videos wif a purrty cool overlay on da videos wot makes dem look old timey. But da biggest and well played pranks were for da Bronx Zoo Cobra. Animal Planet announced a Bronx Zoo Cobra TV deal,a cookin show on Cookin Channel, Bronx Zoo cobra took over Ryan Seacrest's verified twitter account, and PeoplePets.com shows us how da Bronx Zoo Cobra haz takened over da World.

Dis year's event we had a higher goal and not only did we meets it we did beats it!!! Da kittehs at One By One Cat Rescue will be getting over $1600 from SCIFIpawty, but i finks dat might grow since we can takes donashuns thru June 18th for da event.

We had sum really pawsum sponsors for our pwizes dis year and sum truly really OUT OF DIS WORLD pwizes.

Longest Kritter Kondo in All da World

Today it wuz finally warm enuff fur human2 to set up my Kritter Kondo, but wot herz did not tells me wuz we gotted a whole new section of kondo to add to it. It iz called a Kritter Konnector. It iz a 9 foots addition to ma Deluxe Kritter Kondo so I now haz a 15 foots run.

Let me gib u a tour. Dis be da one end...

I did walk from one end to da utter and backs agin. I must say I finks I likes dis new EXTRA LONG kondo. Da Konnector iz just az easy to puts up az ma regular kondo. It just haz a few extra steps and human2 had to puts 2 screws into da third section. Da only problem human2 did hab wuz wif my Deluxe Kritter Kondo. Herz could no gets da doors off, but herz did eventually get one off. But az u can seed we werked it out even wif da doors still attached. MOL

Doz you remember da Melamine Pet Food Recall back in 2007? Well I wuz doin sum research fur ma warning about doggies playing wif people toys and finded out dat Melamine is a fire retardant.

It iz da fire retardants in kids toys dat makes dogs sick. See dis cute lil puppy on da right? Dis iz Giovanna (we calls herz Gigi) herz a sweet lil pup dog wot wuz gibbed a great big cute stuff dog fur Xmas (a few years affer we tooked dis pikshur). It wuz a kids toy and herz human not knowed not to gib dogs people toys. Gigi gotted sick. Herz started droolin and pantin. Dey took da toy away rite qwik and herz gotted betterer on herz own. But iffen herz had ingested any of dat toy dis story might not hab had a happy ending.

Like any dog Gigi likes her stuffies, but now herz parents knows to get herz safe toys wot are made fur dogs cause kids toys haz bad fur dogs flame retardant stuff in dem. Wot can cause kidney failure, like Melamine, or even complete organ shut down and death.

We read a while back about a dog wot wuz beary sick frum eatin toy fluffs and under went surgery to remove the blockage but da toy himz eated wuz a kids toy and when dey opened him up der wuz a liquid mass of gunk in hiz guts and hiz intestines were all black. Dis wuz caused by da fire retardants in da kids toy. Himz did not make it.

It iz important to know what iz in your pet's toys cause dogs chew, suck, lick and even ingest der dog toys. The site HealthyStuff.org halps us understand harmful substances that are found in every day fings including our pet's toys. Snopes.com doz not discount dis az just a rumor, but concludes dat it could be da pesticides instead of the flame retardants. Honestly I don't think either chemical could be good for a doggy to eats. DogTime.com says des chemicals build up in a doggy's system.

I wants all ma pals to stay safe while playing wif der toys. So please, please, please make sure ur toys are made specially fur doggies and come from a good pet store source likes DogToys.com, NipandBones.com, PetSmart, Petco or other pet supply store. But also be sure you iz gettin a good brand name dat stands behind der products. Stick wif Kong, Nylabone, Bamboo, Fat Cat, JW Pet and the like...you know da companies out der dat have been doing dis for years and years.

February is Dental Health Month for pets and dis iz an issue near and dear to me. I hab several friends wot haz crossed da rainbow bridge affer habbing teeth cleanings or teeth problems. Bad teeth can seriously endanger your pets. So it doz be sumfin u need to takes care of on a daily basis. Not all cats or dogs will put up wif habbin der teeth brushed. Dat's where teeth cleaning treats like Greenies come in. Dey still might need a dental cleaning every once in awhile but Greenies will really halp reduce tartar and keep your pets mouth clean.

Veterinary Oral Health Council Distinguishes Pet Dental Products

Pet product peer to American Dental Association seal for humans assures efficacy

NASHVILLE, TN—February 1, 2011—With recent medical data indicating that good oral health can add years to a pet’s healthy lifespan, pet owners are becoming more proactive in caring for their pets’ teeth. February is National Pet Dental Health Month, but dental care is getting due focus year round. Though only one percent of dog owners brush their dogs’ teeth daily, last year 77 percent purchased dental treats, which are regarded as an easier and more enjoyable alternative to brushing.¹

But not all treats have been proven to work. “The VOHC seal confirms a product is efficacious in reducing buildup of plaque and tartar, the leading cause of oral disease, which can reduce a pet’s healthy lifespan,” Dr. Bellows says. “Walk into any pet store and you will find dozens of treats that claim to clean teeth. While it’s easy to make teeth-cleaning claims, formulating a treat that significantly protects teeth is difficult. The VOHC seal is there to help pet owners and veterinarians recognize which products are proven to work.”

The VOHC’s product testing protocols are similar to those of human medical trials that use a control and test group. For dental treat trials in dogs, for example, both groups utilize dogs with clean teeth that are fed a dry food diet, while only one group gets a daily dental treat. Plaque and tartar buildup are measured after 30 days and, if the test group shows significantly cleaner teeth, the seal is awarded to that treat.

Dat Abby would spoon wif her all night long or sleep in da hammock wot wuz made from blankie atween human2's side and da pillow herz would hug.

Dat Abby herz wuz a sweet old brown tiger kitteh wif a heart of gold. Herz could purr and purr fur hours on end. But when human1 would play da piano or sing sumtime Abby would sneak up on H1 and nip her face (don't worry it wuz just a little love bite). Herz always sitted aside Human1 on da piano bench when herz played. Abby never lerned to play da piano like dat Nora kitteh, but herz paid very close attenshuns when human1 would play.

I gotted a phone call and I wuz told to expect a visitor so I ran to da door to see who it could. At first I wuz skeered of da visitor wot had turned out to be ma pal @ShawneeShep. Yep dat big doggy did come to see me affer herz hikey today!

I finks herz wuz a little skeered of me too cause herz wouldn't gets too close at first. (I wuz hissin and growlin too...see ma furs standin on end).

Why One by One Cat Rescue?

I haz has sum folks askin why I likes to donate stuff and go play wif da kittehs at One by One Cat Rescue. Well da simple answer is dey doz a LOT of good for kittehs in ma area. But der iz a long answer too.

Way back when I wuz a babeh someone comed into da shed I shared wif ma litter mates and our mom cat. We wuz feral kittehs (u know da ones wot dunt especially likes peeple). Well da young guy wot founded us did not know dat ma Momcat would be back to move me and my brofur (we were da only tw left in da shed at da time) so he did wot he thought was right (more peeple needs to knows more about how to treat feral cats. please visit Alley Cat Allies for more information and how you can halp edumakates peeples) and he did scoop us up to try to find us homes. His Aunt lady took my brofur wot leaved me cold and alone inside an old cookie tin.

Da young guy and he girlfriend (ma now humanz neighbor) came ovah to ma humanz house (because dey is known da werld ovah fur bein crazy cat ladies -- MOL) and asked if dey wanted me. Dey alreddy had 3 senior cats and did not think dey wanted da responsibility of a wee kitten so dey said no, even tho I had gibbed dem ma best and cutest helpless kitten look. As da kids turned to leave dey started to talks about takin me down to da Humane Society. Dat did not sound too bad dey likes pets rite? Well Human2 did stop dem kids in der tracks and went inside to talk to Human1. I herd sumfing about humane society and puttin to sleep. I did not likes da sound of dat so boy wuz a relieved when dem two bigger humanz came back out and said dey would take me.

Well first dey needed to find out how old I wuz cause i wuz just a wee little fing and needed to get me some nmos and a place to sleeps. So Human2 did jump on da fing called da pooter and looked stuff up. Human1 wented to da garage to get a carrier to make a nest fur me (ma first mancat cave) and to separate me frum da old lady cats. Human2 started making calls den sent human1 off to da store for baby formula cause da pet store wuz closed. I wuz gibbed noms and a warm bed I wuz happy.

Da humanz stayed up talking. Dey wuz still not sure about keepin me. Dey said sumfin about weaning me den findin me a forever home. Human2 tried callin da kitteh rescues. dey said, "no sorry we are full". Human2 gotted to talk to sum1 from One By One who offered great advice, but still said dey could not take me. We know dey iz always takin in kittehs from all ovah and it hard to find sumone wot can and will take a kitten that needs to be hand fed. So we not hates dem. dem sezzin NO turned out to be da bestest fing to eber happen to me and da Humanz. Az da weeks went by and dey could not find anybody who would take me (not dat dey tried too hard mind you), dey started to fall in lub wif ma cute little snoot. (can u blame dem?)

So all because One By One Cat Rescue turned me down ovah five years ago I now haz da bestest forever home I could ever hab. Fank u One By One.

I Gotted Ma Own Credit Card

Human2 gotted dis offer fur an American Express PASS card wot can be used to gib to teens, care givers or even pet sitters (dey some kind of care giver right?) ez access to money wif out problems of credit. Herz thoughted i needed a card wif ma cute snoot on it and we went wif green to matchin ma eyes.

It wuz real ez to sign up fur (cept human2 did makes a mistake wif her bank routin number and had to re-order, but herz still gotted da speshul offer....wot wuz $25 when u add at least $25 to da card. So we haz $50 on ma card to spends. But wot to spends it on? I iz sure I can figger sumfin out. Da card even haz ma name on it (silly human2 had to sign it fur me).

Human2 tooked sum fings down to humane society of berks county tonite & wented in to look at da kitties waiting fur forever homes. One kitty, Molly, did paw at da glass to sez hello. First one paw den both paws. So human2 took da bait & gotted herz out to play. Soon az dey wuz in da adoption room (where people can visit privately wif kitties dey finkin of adoptin) Molly plopped down & rolled ovah fur belly rubs! Herz really enjoyed dem belly rubs & butt scritches.

Human2 had tooked sum fun foam balls in & herz and Molly did play soccer for qwite awhile. Molly really seemed to likes dem balls (but like a good kitty would not play wif it when da camera was out -- MOL).

Remember last week when I skeered ma humanz silly by slipping out da front door & disappearing for about an hour? I wuz told I will neber eber see da outsides agin.

Well I haz since been in ma Kritter Kondo a couple of times and last night I went out wif Human1 to move da trash cans ovah for da garbage guys to take da stinky trash. When herz turned around I wuz gone!

I did sneak off & runned down da front steps and wuz on da sidewalk by da bad city road.

I am once agin told I will neber eber see da outsides unless I am safe inside dat Kritter Kondo.

Human2 will make sure I am locked in but I haz dat Human1 wrapped around ma paw & herz lets me roam da yard when herz outside wif me. I hope dis doz not stop dat, but I iz a skeered it will.

Asides from the dangerous cars on da road and in da alley ma humanz iz askeered of nasty peeple like dem wot shot Peanut or me being scooped up and dragged off to da Animal Rescue League & putted down afore they could finds me.

On second thought mehbe I will just go straight into ma Kritter Kondo from now on.

Dat artikle yesterday did briefly mention anutter kitty wot wuz shot too. When human2 called da police to askin bout dem kitties dey passed on herz info and da second kitty's human called human2 today.

Da second kitty iz Kiki and herz wuz shot in da elbow. Doctors did operates and fixed as best dey could. But da elbow wuz shattered and Kiki might still lose herz leg!

Dis whole fing iz just horrible and des loverly, sweet kitties did not deserve dis. Dey loved da outdoors & now dey can no be outside again. So sad. I haz added Kiki to my Chip-in for da Vet bills and hope to be able to gib dem sum green papers too!

Poor Kitty Been Shot Wif Gun

Human2 comed home from werk today all upset because herz seed dis cute little kitty on da front page of da Daily Local News paper.

No herz wuz not upset cause dat kitty wuz on the front page and I wuz not. Herz wuz upset cause dat poor kitty wuz shot by sum very bad person. Da kittehs name iz Peanut & according to da newspaper herz wuz shot earlier dis year too! So sad. Dis time herz wuz shoot thru the upper leg wot shattered da bones and needed emergency surgery at da Brandywine Animal Hospital.

Herz surgeries wuz beary expensive ($2400+) and u knows der will more iffen Peanut gets sick or needs follow up doctor visits. Herz human haz to keep she in a cage so she not hurts herself. It gonna be months afore Peanut iz better (like Valentine's Day).

It doz hurts ma heart to seed dis kitteh wif dis big owie.

Halloween Hijinx

Wow did we hab a busy Meow-o-Ween weekend. Yesterday wuz Chiller Theatre & today wuz da real deal wif handin out all dem Snickers bars we gotted from SheSpeaks.com to all our trick-or-treaters.

We had a blast decoratin da house up and getting ready. Our house guest, Lippe, wanted to dress up to hand out da treats and since he went wif ma Humanz to see da Cleopatra exhibit dat weekend afore he dressed up az a mummy.

We did wrestle to see which one of would gib out da candies. Surprisingly Lippe did win. I fink da fight wuz fixed.

I knows u r out der Lippe!. Where iz you? I hope sumfin skeery gets he. Dis iz not fair!

Lippe did enjoy gibbin dem kids (& der parents a taste of dem new Snickers Peanut Butter candy bars). Lippe says dey iz to die for!

I had to keep checkin up on he to see wot he wuz up to and I did see skeery fings out der wif him!

Black Cats Have a Bad Rep

Da beautiful black kitties out der have (& doggies too) have had a rather had time over da centuries. There iz tons of superstitious peeples wot think a black kitty will bring bad luck. Dat's not true! But it iz finking like dat wot makes dem hard to adopt out and they sit in shelters longer den utter kitties. Wot iz just heart breakin.

Human2 had a black cat way back afore us wot wuz her bestest (& sumtimes onliest) friend growing up. Her name wuz Cleopatra (named affer a witches kitty in sum moovie H2's mommy had watch....see wot I means).

Ma pal Romeo the Cat has been celebrating the Black Cat all week long and showcasing sum beary handsum house panthers too. Go on ovah to his website & check dem out.

Halloween iz a fun time fur humanz but sum of dem use dis time to doz harm to animals and black cats in particular need to watch out. So have your humanz keep you safe in doors dis weekend. I wants all ma black anipals safes & sound come Monday morning!

Longest Kitteh in Da Werld

Ok so da utter day I did seed dis pikshur of da longest kitteh in da werld and thoughted "hai dats me". So I did fink I needed to show off just how big I iz.

Da Guinness World Record people did name Stewie of Reno, NV da longest kitteh at 48.5" from tip of da nose to tail bone. Dat a long kitteh.

I will haz to let ma humanz measuring me sumtime to see how well I measure up. But since today iz Human1's birfaday I will just snuggle up wif her insted.

Halloweens On Snickers Dis Year

We hub Halloween....but I finks u figured dat out by now huh? Any who....human2 doz belongs to dis webby site called SheSpeaks.com where u gets products to try and bloggy about. Herz two favorite fings herz did so far wuz one fur Haagen daz ice cream (when dey introduced Haagen Daz 5 we gotted each flavor and had a old fashioned ice cream pawty) and now dis one frum Snickers.

Snickers iz introducing a brand new candy bar (insert drum roll here) -- Snickers Peanut Butter.

Snickers sended us a HUGE box of da new Peanut Butter, regular Snickers, a fog machine, strobe light & utter decorations. I did a complete inventory to make sure dat it all here! Even tho dat Lippe tried to eated dem all up!

We started to decorates for da trick-or-treater tonight and hung up da BIG Snickers banner so we could postin pikshurs ovah at SheSpeaks.com, but we not all dun yet. We be reddy fur da lil monsters by Halloween!

Ma humanz haz rescued all us kitties in sum form or utter although now us us were officially adopted via shelter or rescue. Livin in Pennsylvania in da middle of all da Amish puppy mills haz really opened our eyes about adoptions and the need to stop dem bad puppy (& kitty) breeders.

Through halpin rescue us kitties Human2 haz gotted involved wif da local Humane Society & Rescue League. We hab no more room but we would bring dem all home iffen we could. So we doz our best to promote adoptions thru rescues & shelters when ever we can!

We halp by donating much needed items as well as just plain fun fings fur kittehs & doggies. We takes treats and toys over and spend time wif da animals. Dat iz called socializing dem. When dey r good wif people dey can more easily be adopted.

So even iffen u can no adopt during da Iams Home 4 the Holidays adoption drive dis year u can still make a difference by volunteering at a shelter, attending events (& sharing ur experiences to halp raise awareness) or even sponsor an animal in a shelter.

I knows you all knows about dat Iams Home 4 the Holidays (cause I did tell you abouts in ma last bloggy post:Every Animal Wants a Home 4 the Holidays ).

Part of der Adoption Drive iz also a food drive to donate bowls of foods to shelters.

Only two weeks into Iams Home 4 the Holidays and dey haz had 51,235 Adoptions and donated 7,297 meals.

I haz teamed up wif dem nice peoples at Iams to increase dem meal donations wif da halp of ma pals on Twitter.

We did gets to hear Mr. Mike Arms speak at BlogPaws West in September, and boy will dat guy make your eyes leaky.

He told us about da Helen Woodward Animal Center and all da good things it doz for da animals and people in dat community.

He also shared horror stories about open-door (aka kill) shelters (dat why da eyes get leaky). He iz da founder of the adoption drive Iams Home 4 the Holidays.

They do sum pawsum work to get every animal a forever and ever home!

My pals Fergus, Sebastian and Romeo did hab dem and we did alreddy collect dem pals! Human2 wanted sum rite den & der but we had to wait fur herz to come home to join da site & order up sum cards for me.
